A Chilean Malbec from the Maipo Valley
Malbec is usually associated with the other side of the Andes, but Chile's Valle del Maipo offers its own take on the grape. Framed by the Pacific Ocean on one side and the mountains on the other, the valley gives slow, even ripening and fruit with freshness as well as depth. The result is a Malbec that is a touch more lifted and floral than its Argentine cousins, and very easy to enjoy.
How It's Made
The harvest is timed carefully to pick the grapes at peak freshness. Once in the winery, the fruit is destemmed and chilled to 12 °C for 24 hours to lock in its aromas, then fermented at a controlled 24–25 °C to draw out colour and flavour. After malolactic fermentation, the wine rests on its fine lees for several months, which gives it extra roundness and complexity.
